CCGT Plant Manager - Ghana

US$10K net per month + accommodation, vehicle, flights, healthcare, life insurance

Fantastic opportunity to join an international energy and water company who are currently seeking an experienced Plant Manager to manage a CCGT power plant in Ghana.

Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Plant Manager role holds responsibility for overseeing and directing all Operations, Maintenance and Engineering, including supporting activities. Enabling the achievement of business objectives, with due regard to safety, health and the environment.

The Plant Manager will directly supervise: Deputy Plant Manager, Operations Manager, HSSE Manager, Head of Performance and Reliability, Outage Planning and Execution Manager

Responsibilities:
  • Develop on a regular basis, new strategy aimed towards increasing productivity and production as well as maximizing revenue.
  • Develop objectives and implement strategies in alignment with strategic initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus for the operations and maintenance unit
  • Develop systems and processes that track and optimize productivity and standards, metrics, and performance targets to ensure effective return on assets
  • Organise training and staff development initiatives
  • Plan, organise, direct, and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the plant
  • Ensure that compliance standards as well as company policies are met
  • Ensure that staff always maintain a safe working environment and follow all safety regulations and protocols
  • Keep abreast of maintenance and repairs, ensuring that the workplace is free from any safety hazards
  • Prepare operating budgets and reports and ensure that all operations run within their set budget as delegated by the General Manager
  • Review EHS reports and implement corrective actions where required
  • Oversee business compliance with contractual commitments, especially those associated with the PPA and LTSA
  • Oversee the contractor’s performance within the Long-Term Service Agreement (LTSA) to ensure their compliance with all technical and commercial aspects of the agreement
  • Ensure the company management system is reviewed, relevant, updated, and available to all the team
  • Review plant inspection reports and audits and implement modifications / corrective actions where required
  • Oversee identification, evaluation and implementation of plant improvement opportunities to develop means for improving the Plant performance at optimal costs
  • Develop and ensure succession planning at all levels
  • Establish contacts and interactions with external organizations to promote sharing of best practice and continuous improvement
  • Organize and oversee full team meetings
  • Encourage active communication between teams
Required competences:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or a related field
  • Previous experience working at a senior management level in a CCGT power plant is essential (ideally as Plant Manager)
  • Clear understanding of how an independent power project is structured, the relationship between the various contracts, notably PPA, the LTSA to oversee general compliance of parties involved in the contracts.
  • Experience of developing and managing power plant improvement projects
  • A proven ability to lead, communicate and drive change
  • Self-starter with a strong ability to multitask and motivate a team to meet deadlines
